- Click "Select folder to convert" to bring up the folder chooser
- (Optional) Set the desired compression level by clicking the down arrow next to "Create CPIO.GZ File". This will only work with archive formats that support compression.
- Click "Create CPIO.GZ File". It will start creating the CPIO.GZ archive from your folder contents.
Once all the files are processed, the "Save cpio.gz File" button will appear. - Click "Save CPIO.GZ File" to save the folder archive to your selected destination folder.

What is a cpio.gz file?
A CPIO.GZ file combines the CPIO archive format with GZIP compression. The files are first archived using CPIO, maintaining their metadata and directory structure, then compressed using GZIP to reduce the overall file size. This combination provides both the robust archiving capabilities of CPIO and the efficient compression of GZIP.
This format is particularly useful in Linux system administration, where compressed CPIO archives are often used for system backups and creating compressed initial ramdisk images. The GZIP compression helps reduce storage space while maintaining CPIOs ability to handle special file types and recover from partial corruption. When creating CPIO.GZ archives with ezyZip, date information is not included and empty directories are not added to the resulting archive file.
