An ISO file (derived from ISO 9660) is a disk image format that represents an exact copy of an optical disc such as a CD, DVD, or Blu-ray. Unlike other archive formats, ISO files preserve the exact structure and bootability of optical discs, making them perfect for distributing operating systems, software collections, and creating backup copies of optical media.
ISO files are widely supported across different platforms and can be mounted as virtual drives or burned to physical media. They maintain the original disc's file system structure and can include multiple file systems (such as ISO 9660, Joliet, or UDF) for better cross-platform compatibility. This format is essential for software distribution, operating system installation, and creating exact copies of optical media. When creating ISO archives with ezyZip, date information is not included and empty directories are not added to the resulting archive file.
